I do think everyone has his own right to express his feeling about something. As usual, People often concerned about how designers react to a bad review. The classiest example is Giorgio Armani. One day, maybe four or five years ago, when he was venting about all the coverage that Miuccia Prada and Tom Ford were getting. The fashion world needs to wake up and smell the roses, before they begin to push them up. Bring back the shorter skirts and some clevage,my goodness, whats so wrong with wanting to look at a woman? What you have now, doesn’t even look like females!

Once I asked Armani through an interpreter if his resentment toward those other designers didn’t qualify as sour grapes, since he had been king of the road in ’80s and early ’90s. And designers do not care about what middle America has to say because they’re not their target market. I asked the interpreter to make sure she repeated sour grapes.

Armani didn’t flinch. Fashion is for everyone, but when it comes to a catwalk, skinny girls work it the best! I do not get why people are going crazy over this, what is next ballerinas and rock stars are too skinny to performe? Plus seeing a skinny model fall is normal, but seeing a fat model fall could be painful and sad. It’s true, he said, that every designer has his moment. Armani’s conduct was absolutely impeccable, and I’ve always felt free to say whatever I wanted.

I have to admit I’m a little ignorant when it comes to Jean Muir. I think part of the reason is that even when she was alive she wasn’t receiving as much exposure as other designers. I’m not sure if this was due to her decision to keep her business in London at a time when the Fashion Press were just not coming to the City. I was sitting with Alix Browne of the Times Magazine the other night at the Dior resort show at 7 World Trade Center when I had the thought that John Galliano’s clothes were not really about India or Marrakech at all.

I knew that her focus was on knits and in particular jersey, but there was also a modern ease and simplicity to the cut of her clothes. I hate to draw parallels to other designers, but could she have been described as the Calvin Klein of British Fashion? I’d compare her to Sonia Rykiel. Rather, they were about the American West and the Middle West of Arkansas and Oklahoma. There was a great vibrant redneck couture quality about the clothes — and those of you who follow Galliano’s work know he has a taste for raw country.

But I think Rykiel’s approach to knits was completely different. It was more coquettish and ornamental, with a focus on color blocks and cut-outs. I’m looking forward to reading the book on Muir, the only information I have on her was a TV interview I saw back in the early 90’s. Remember the trashy Dior shows of few years back? Anyway, that’s what I saw in the show, a kind of couture sensibility that never made it to Dallas or Fort Worth but maybe got as far as Oklahoma.

The designers are kind of high-key, it is them to be blame fot this. The job needs them to do this. Antonio Berardi was a pretty well kept secret until Gwyneth Paltrow surprised everyone by wearing his trompe l’oeil corset dress to one of her premieres last year. He clinched all that at the outset with pale, soft, paillette-smothered dresses. Backed onto chiffon, they had movement and looked right dressed down with thick ribbed tights and suede shoe-boots.

It is said that the gold will shine eventually. Thanks to collaborations with Saga furs and Crystallized Swarovski Elements, Berardi has also managed to add an extra level of luxe to his signature pieces. That stirred curiosity about an Italian-British designer who, tortoiselike, has been steadily moving along years after many of the hares from his nineties generation have streaked into obscurity. He patched fox and lynx onto knit in innovative ways, so that a trompe l’oeil gilet came with blue-sequined sweater sleeves, and jackets turned to show a back view featuring chunks of geometric crystal embroidered onto gray jersey.

He was not quite satisfied with this show. Maybe he was a bit captious. Though he showed mostly evening on this runway, Berardi’s pre-collection is full of great utilitarian outerwear and tailoring, too. The collection Berardi showed for Fall rewarded a second look: The quality has ramped up, he’s added furs, and generally found a niche in which classy young women will now discover something genuinely interesting to wear.

As you could inmage, there are not so many fashion designers all over the world. We are not including the persons works in the fashion industry, but the really designer. Two years ago, fashion designers held about 20,000 jobs, most of whom are in USA, France and England. And about 28 percent of them worked for apparel, piece goods, and notions merchant wholesalers; and the remainder worked for corporate offices involved in the management of companies and enterprises, clothing stores, performing arts companies, and specialized design services firms. The rests are self-employed, their business is to pick up some mission from some smaller companies and charge fix fees.

Employment of fashion designers tends to be concentrated in regional fashion centers, like Marc Jacobs. The highest concentrations of fashion designers were employed in New York and California. While in China, the 95 percents are in Beijing, Shanghai and Guangzhou. For a singer countries or region, you could find this rule.

Now comes the most expected part, how much do they earn? Earnings in fashion design can vary widely based on the employer and years of experience. Starting salaries in fashion design tend to be very low until designers are established in the industry. Median annual earnings for salaried fashion designers were $62,610 in May 2006. The middle 50 percent earned between $42,140 and $87,510. The lowest 10 percent earned less than $30,000, and the highest 10 percent earned more than $117,120. I think this level of income is quite reasonable, if it is not too low.

Marc Jacobs, in a three-piece suit with his hair slicked back, was kidding around. Robert Duffy, his business partner, walked along the line, and as he approached Raquel Zimmermann he mentioned that the models had on pretty lingerie. Ms. Zimmermann lifted her short skirt to show black point d’esprit underpants.

But in a way, seeing the models in the line told a lot about the intensity of Mr. Jacobs’s affection for Paris, and how expressive he has become as a designer. If anything, Mr. Jacobs’s Vuitton show was a spoof on the elements we think of as quintessentially French, like the chic jacket, the polka-dot pajama and the poodle hairdo. But in spite of the sentiment of the édith Piaf soundtrack, the modernity of the show ultimately rested on how visual the clothes were.

Ostrich feather skirts, leopard-pattern bags and decoratively beaded shoes evoked Africa. Miuccia Prada closed the Paris spring shows with a fine Miu Miu collection that also combined textures — burlap and satin — in predominantly slim dresses that had detachable half skirts. She also showed Greco-Roman prints, but the use of paint-splashed burlap was most intriguing.

I have spent a lot of time studying about the designers, who is good at handbag designs. I looked at their works, their way of working and things like that. I found three of them is predominant. Now, I would like to make a brief introduction of these three.

Tom Ford is not only extremely talented, but he’s hot too. Born in Texas, Tom originally trained to be an actor! Can you believe that? Thank goodness we pulled him over to the good side. Ford stole the show at the first ever VH1 Fashion Awards and won the Best International Designer Award in 2000. He is not that like to show around as many other designers.

Donatella Versace, while a little flamboyant herself, is still one of fashions most loved divas. But really, this woman is not only the Creative Director for Gucci, he’s also the Creative Director fro Yves Saint Laurent. Born in Calabria Italy, she graciously took over her late brother Gianni Versace’s already flawless design house.

Valentino Garavani, hailing from Voghera Italy, mainly working for Louis Vuitton, this man knows how to make a woman look like a goddess. Though his shows speak for themself, the one place you are sure to find a Valentino dress is on the red carpet. Having dressed many of the world’s most famous leading ladies such as Julia Roberts and Elizabeth Taylor, in my opinion, he has proven his talent and risen to the top three as The King of Elegance.

Unfortunately, it’s extremely timely, even its is not usual for such a big famous designer. Marc Jacobs, his Yves Saint Laurent-inflected Resort collection is not as to what he wants. Nods to the master were evident in the piped robe-style pieces—offered in a deep, exotic palette of magenta, green, and royal blue—as well as in the outsize heart necklaces. It was there in the puffy headbands the models wore around their foreheads and the clubby atmosphere inside the Armory. Some people said it gave them free, though the set’s menacing scaffolding and the unsettling black-and-white images that played on a screen behind the band also suggested a more downtown environment.

Afterward, when asked about his inspirations, Jacobs really wasn’t very inspired this season. There were heart prints and appliqués, too. For resort, Jacobs is clearly a lover, not a fighter. The collection wasn’t an homage per se, as everything was filtered through Jacobs’ sensibility, which is ever on the pulse and not without humor. If Yves Saint Laurent designed Escada, it might look like this.

Marc Jacobs just lived his life. When pressed, he showed a few more traits, Calm, Glamour, Casual. Beautiful women. Vague as that sounds, it was in fact an apt description for a collection that hinted at the eighties of Jacobs’ early days in New York. And it was there in the palette of soft pastels and grays and the relaxed in terms of shape, not sensibility, somewhat masculine cut of the classic clothes.

The designer is making something new, so intuitionistic, it will take longer to come up with a piece of work. Average, the design process from initial design concept to final production takes between 18 and 24 months. Take handbags as an example, the designer has to study what style will be the exact one the consumer wants, to do this, researching current fashion and making predictions of future trends is the first step.

Now, they know what to do. The question they face is how to do it. That is up to them. Some designers conduct their own research, while others rely on trend reports published by fashion industry trade groups, or even they hire some consultant to do some surveys. Trend reports indicate what styles, colors, and fabrics will be popular for a particular season in the future, as well as other specify elements.

And the designer is not working alone. They get company. Textile manufacturers use these trend reports to begin designing fabrics and patterns while fashion designers begin to sketch preliminary designs. It will take many modifications before it is done. If the designer is important enough, before it is producted, the designer must make some examples and find some volunteer to try it to see whether it is good. Designers then visit manufacturers or trade shows to procure samples of fabrics and decide which fabrics to use with which designs. Such a design is done.
